Responsibility Classes for Grades K-6


K-2: Synopsis
When Leftboot Larue shows up late for the weekly meeting of the Peace Rangers, it’s clear that he’s been afflicted with a sure-fire case of the Blames. As students play the part of the Peace Rangers, they will define their own personal responsibilities, learn how to avoid blaming others, and help Leftboot learn how to take responsibility for his actions.

K-2: Educational Objectives

  1. To define responsibility
  2. To brainstorm situations in which responsibility should be demonstrated
  3. To identify the feelings that keep people from being responsible
  4. To show the consequences of failing to show responsibility
  5. To show how to make responsible choices

Audience size:  35 students maximum in a classroom; up to 40 students in a multi-purpose room
Running time:  40 minutes

3-6: Synopsis

Being a kid isn’t easy.  Friendships, schoolwork, and an ever-expanding list of extracurricular activities cause kids to take on a lot of responsibilities.  This class gives each student the opportunity to brainstorm their responsibilities at school and home, play an activity to demonstrate what it means to be responsible, and role-play a common scenario involving personal responsibility.

3-6: Educational Objectives

  1. To define responsibility
  2. To brainstorm the responsibilities that the students have
  3. To demonstrate a commonly neglected responsibility: homework
  4. To illustrate the consequences of neglecting responsibilities
  5. To share strategies for students who have difficulty motivating themselves to take responsibility for themselves
  6. To provide students with an opportunity to practice taking responsibility for their actions
